We docked at Kodiak at 8am, right on schedule.
Kodiak Island is the second biggest island in USA after the Big Island Hawaii.
Mainly a fishing village so we watched the trawlers leave the harbour.
But it is also know for Fort Abercrombie now a state national park
This military fort, 4.5 miles northeast of Kodiak, off Monashka Bay Rd, was built by the US Army during WWII to defend against a Japanese invasion that never came. In the end, Kodiak’s lousy weather kept the Japanese bombers away from the island. The fort is now a 186-acre state historical park, sitting majestically on the cliffs above scenic Monashka Bay
So the local school bus picked us up and drove us to this magical national park.
And so back to the ship via Kodiak.
